Are you your own worst enemy?

Are you not as successful as you feel you could be and you aren’t sure why? Do you feel anxious about your business to the point that it’s taking a toll on your health or your personal relationships? Did you know that there are 6 simple toxic behaviors that could be hindering your success?

I am a creature of habit and with that I find change to sometimes be difficult. But, with every transition in life, you are forced to look at yourself and the choices you make and choose a new direction. You are forced to look at your strengths and weaknesses so you can choose the right path for YOU. As I embark on the adventure of owning my own business, I feel its important to be aware that everyone has the potential to do well….but they also have the potential to sabotage themselves without even realizing it.

I read an article recently about toxic behaviors that hinder personal and professional growth. I recognized some of the behaviors in myself and others around me. But I found this to be a very positive discovery. If I can recognize these behaviors, then I can work on changing them. I thought I would share these behaviors (and article) so that everyone can see if they recognize these traits in themselves.

6 Toxic Behaviors that push people away and hinder success:

  • Taking everything personal.

  • Obsessing about negative thoughts

  • Treating yourself like a victim

  • Cruelty – lacking in empathy or putting yourself in others shoes

  • Excessive reactivity

  • Needing constant validation

I’ve worked to make changes in my life and my perceptions and I already feel better. When you stop obsessing why things happened or why someone said something, then you can focus more attention on moving forward positively. When you spend time feeling regret about something you may or may not have done as well as you thought, then you are taking time away from other aspects of your life. You are your own roadblock. By avoiding these toxic behaviors you can feel free, much more relaxed and confident in yourself and your ability to do good work and succeed.

There are 3 quotes that I have on post-its stuck above my desk. I look at these quotes daily and they help me.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” – Eleanor Roosevelt

“Forget Regret or life is yours to miss” – RENT the Musical

“You is kind. You is smart. You is important – “The Help”
